The Alaska Trap

The Alaska Trap is a three-piece I formed with Jon Markwell and James Davies in early 2022. Jon and I had been working on music together during the COVID-19 pandemic, sending recordings back and forth while in lockdown. When we could get together in a room again Jon introduced me to James, and we started writing music together.

Our music was heavily influenced by indie rock, pop-punk and emo of the 2000s and 2010s which we all grew up listening to.

We spent 2022 writing and rehearsing, and recording our first single, “No Explanation” which came out that November. A month later we played our first show at the Amersham Arms in New Cross. Our debut EP, “To Crash and Burn”, was released the following April.

Over the next couple of years we played across London, Paper Dress Vintage, 93 Feet East, Strongroom Bar, Peckham Audio, The Outpost, supported Republica at the O2 Academy Islington in November 2023, and a sold out show at the Camden Assembly (Camden Barfly).

We played our first international show when the function band at Jon Markwell’s wedding in Thailand handed us their instruments allowing us to play a short set to the wedding guests!

We released our second EP, “Silhouettes”, independently in September 2024 which was mixed and mastered by Grammy winner Patrick Kehrier. As part of the release we filmed a music video for the title track “Silhouettes”.

Jon moved to Thailand at the end of 2024, so the band is on an extended hiatus. All our music is still up on all the streaming platforms, and thealaskatrap.com has details of all our releases and other info about the band.
